***NEW 2025-03-11*** 2025 Florida QSO Party: April 26-27, 2025. This year’s event will feature two 10-hour operating windows: Saturday, April 26 1600 UTC (12 noon EDT) to Sunday, April 27 0159 UTC (9:59 PM EDT), and Sunday, April 27 1200 UTC (8:00 AM EDT) to Sunday 2159 UTC (5:59 PM EDT). The goal is to have all 67 Florida counties on the air. All Florida hams are encouraged to participate. ***NEW 2025-03-11*** World Amateur Radio Day will be Celebrated April 18 0000 UTC to April 19 0000 UTC, 2025. Clubs are being encouraged to hold an open house or operating event to celebrate the day and showcase amateur radio to the public. 2025-03-01 – USA National Radio Orienteering Championships – The 2025 championships will take place in mid-June in the Uwharrie Mountains of North Carolina. This year’s event is being hosted by the Backwoods Orienteering Klub. Registration for the event will open in mid-March. Details are available on the club’s website: Backwoods Orienteering Klub.
2025-02-24 – NASCAR Race Radio Hacked in Atlanta – An unknown race fan hacked the NASCAR race control radio frequency several times during Sunday’s 400-mile race. 2025-02-21 – The Hurricane Watch Net Celebrates 60th Anniversary This Year – The net, which was founded in September 1965, is currently looking to add additional net control stations. Training will be provided. Bi-lingual skills, while not necessary, are a plus – especially Spanish, French and Creole. More information is available here: Hurricane Watch Net web site.
2025-02-16 – New Amateur Callsigns issued by Russia – Russian officials have announced new amateur callsign prefixes for regions near the contested areas of Ukraine. The Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhee and Kehrson regions are affected. Click for details: New Russian Prefixes.
2025-02-15 – RigExpert’s Administrative Offices in Ukraine Destroyed. The company reports their administrative offices in Ukraine were destroyed in a Russian missile attack. Fortunately all team members are safe. More info on their Facebook page.
2025-02-14 – Emergency Preparedness Act Reintroduced. ARRL is reporting that the act, which would override some HOA restrictions and allow amateur radio operators to install antennas needed to serve their communities, has been reintroduced in Congress.
