The Car Radio – Audio systems, which these days are often described as entertainment systems, are pretty much standard in modern vehicles. But did you know that early automobiles did not come with radios? The first car radio was offered as an option by Chevrolet in 1922. It carried a price tag of $200. Do you remember RCA (the Radio Corporation of America)? Here’s some fascinating reading for the old-time ham radio buffs among us. From 1938 to 1970, the RCA Corporation issued a series of newsletters intended for amateur radio operators. The newsletters were entitled Ham Tips from RCA. General Electric Company (GE) – Not to be outdone by RCA, the General Electric Company also published a ham radio newsletter. Titled GE Ham News, issues were published from 1946 to 1963. Fortunately, the complete run of 101 issues is archived in PDF format. Click here to view them: GE Ham News.
